4 Predictions for Social Media in 2019

The world of social media is constantly changing. Algorithms are always being updated in a way that affects content distribution. Just when you think something will continue to trend, all of a sudden it doesn’t continue to trend.

Now that we are in 2019, social media will address many things. This includes privacy, AI, messaging bots and more. With that said, below are four predictions about where social media will take us throughout the rest of the year.

1) Nano-Influencers Will Attract Brands

Nano-influencers are usually those who have less than 12,000 followers. Brands are realising that the size of the following list doesn’t matter and it doesn’t always translate to engagement. In fact, smaller influencers are likely more real than those who have tons of followers. This is why those with a smaller following tend to have more engaging followers.

There’s a few people I know who receive money in exchange for promoting products via posts. This allows companies to spread the word about their products or services, and they don’t have to spend as much as they would if they paid a person with a huge following. Nano-influencers will likely take deals because they are not used to getting deals or cash for such activities. It’s a win-win for companies and small-time influencers.

2) Social Media Will Meet Tech Advancement

Tech continues to develop, but companies will have to be smart when it comes to getting their message across on social media. The truth is that it’s currently difficult to get people to visualise and talk about things such as machine learning, quantum computing, hybrid clouds and things of that nature. This means social media platforms will need to become creative and they will need to educate people with that’s going on. This is important for companies like NRG Digital that consistently want to meet the content demand for various platforms, including social media platforms.

3) Stories Will Continue to Grow

Stories will continue to grow, especially in the format of content disappearing after a day (24 hours) of being on social media. The founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that News Feed usage was declining and he told his teams to build new products and features for the Stories format. However, the big question is whether there is enough interest in Stories, and that’s why it’s going to be heavily focused on, or if Facebook just wants to force people to use them. After all, this could lead to ad revenue growth.

4) Segmented Social Media Video Hits the Mainstream

The future of real-time engagement, education and collaboration has a bright future, and it lays within social media video. In fact, social media video will end up being the closest thing to what people do in reality, but psychical location will no longer be important. If social video is done the right way, then social media platforms will win over future generations.

Brands are likely to focus heavily on targeting prospective customers via social media. This is why companies should not take a one-size-fits-all approach with their social media strategy, more specifically their video strategy. Video content is quickly becoming the most popular form of content people view, so videos need to be personalised and they need to be of good quality.

How the Above Can Help

By now, you’re probably wondering how the above predictions can help you. Well, it’s worth mentioning that we don’t even know if they will become true. However, the above can help you because it may give you an idea of what is trending and what technology is being used by social media platforms. The bottom line is you’ll have no problems creating excellent content with all this in mind.
