Staccato Expands Into India; Acquires WiQuest Design Center of Excellence

Solidifying Staccato’s industry leadership, Bangalore design team adds deep knowledge and development expertise in UWB and Wireless USB technology

San Diego, CA – December 18, 2008  Staccato Communications, an Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless technology pioneer and leader in Wireless USB from the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), today announced that it has acquired WiQuest Semiconductors India Private Ltd. The new Staccato R&D center located in Bangalore, India complements the existing R&D centers in Cambridge, UK and San Diego, CA. Staccato’s Cambridge design center is a result of the recent merger with Artimi, at which time Staccato also announced a new round of financing totaling $20M. With the addition of the WiQuest Design Center of Excellence, Staccato is well positioned to drive Wireless USB products and technology into the mainstream.

The Bangalore design team developed Wireless USB products that achieved a No. 1 market share position with major PC and PC peripheral OEMs and ODMs. Core competencies include firmware, driver and protocol development, as well as hardware design and system test.

“We are extremely happy to announce this key addition to our product development team,” said Jerry Loraine, vice president of product development for Staccato Communications. “The knowledge and expertise that our India design center brings to Staccato will allow us to accelerate the productization of our innovative UWB and Wireless USB solutions. This is also a clear indication that Staccato is committed to delivering best-in-class products to drive Wireless USB technology into volume markets and applications.”

“Having spent multiple man-years developing and shipping UWB products, our expertise in this space will be a great complement to Staccato’s existing products,” said Girisha B. Shankar, head of engineering for the Staccato Bangalore design center. “We are excited to be a part of this new team developing global Wireless USB solutions operating in band groups 1, 3 and 6 using Staccato’s market-leading Ripcord integrated circuits.”
