Staccato’s Ripcord2™ Named 2009 International CES Best Enabling Technology
Staccato awarded “Best of Innovations” honors in the Enabling Technology category and as a Design and Engineering honoree
San Diego, CA – November 12, 2008 Staccato Communications, an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless technology pioneer and leader in Wireless USB from the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), today announced that its Ripcord2™ family of single-chip, all-CMOS solutions was selected for the Best of Innovations Award in the Enabling Technologies category by the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations Design and Engineering Awards. The company has also been named as a CES Innovations Design and Engineering Honoree.
The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards program recognizes the most innovative consumer electronics (CE) products in the industry's hottest product categories, and has become a hallmark for the best designed products in consumer technology. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press.
"We are honored to be recognized with this prestigious award, which further validates our aggressive product strategy of single-chip all-CMOS design,” said Marty Colombatto, CEO for Staccato Communications. "By pushing the boundaries of innovation with Ripcord2, we have been able to offer a fully integrated UWB solution in 65nm CMOS that meets the strict requirements of the market in terms of power, size, performance, system cost and worldwide operation. This recognition is also a testament to the value of UWB as low-power, high-speed, short-range wireless technology, of which we believe Ripcord2 will be a key market enabler.”
Staccato’s Ripcord2 will be on display during the 2009 International CES, January 8-11, in Las Vegas. Honorees of the 2009 Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will be featured by product category in booth #72062 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian. Best of Innovations honoree products will also displayed at the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, next to Experience CEA and at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES on Tuesday, January 6. Staccato’s booth location at CES will be in South Hall 4 at the CES Meeting Place (Booth # 35156MP). Ripcord2 will also be on demonstration in the USB-IF TechZone.
Ripcord2 Single-Chip CMOS UWB
Targeted for WiMedia UWB and Wireless USB applications, Ripcord2 is the industry’s first and only implementation utilizing 65nm CMOS process technology, and offers a quantum leap in power consumption, size and integration over existing solutions. Leveraging software development on the fully certified Ripcord1 family, Staccato’s Ripcord2 supports multiple protocols, including Wireless USB, High-Speed Bluetooth, Wireless IP and Wireless Audio/Video. In addition, Ripcord2 has received WiMedia PHY certification for Band Groups 1, 3 and 6, and supports the capability for detection and avoidance (DAA), providing a worldwide compatible solution in a single device. Key target applications for Ripcord2 include PCs, PC peripherals (such as printers, docking stations, monitors), consumer electronics (such as DSCs, DVCs, home entertainment equipment) and mobile handsets.
Based on the Wireless USB 1.0 Specification and the WiMedia UWB Common Radio Platform, Ripcord2’s high-level of integration minimizes design risk, lowers system cost and accelerates customers’ time-to-market by consolidating all hardware and software components necessary to implement a complete worldwide solution.
